Rubrik’s Cybersecurity Podcast “To Catch a Thief” Wins Tribeca X Award

Tribeca X Award

Rubrik’s cybersecurity podcast “To Catch a Thief” has received the great Tribeca X Award at the 25th annual Tribeca Festival in New York City. The Security and AI Operations Company announced that its podcast documentary series earned recognition for outstanding achievement in story-driven brand collaborations.

Produced in partnership with Pod People, “To Catch a Thief” secured the Best Audio/Podcast award for its first season. Titled “China’s Rise to Cyber Supremacy.” The award highlights the series’ impact in bringing complex cybersecurity challenges and global cyber threats to wider audiences.

The first season gained significant global attention after its release. It became a top five Apple documentary podcast and explored the growing impact of Chinese cyberespionage. The nine-part series examined the journey from trade secret theft to large-scale surveillance operations. Also the connection between cyber activities and critical U.S. infrastructure.

Also the podcast featured insights from leading intelligence and cybersecurity professionals. The interviews included Kevin Mandia, former CEO of Mandiant, Jen Easterly, former Director of CISA, Rob Joyce, former NSA cybersecurity director, and several other industry experts.

Rubrik Highlights Cybersecurity Awareness Through Storytelling

“To Catch a Thief began with a simple belief. That some of the most consequential conflicts of our time are happening far from public view – in software, networks, critical infrastructure – and that the only way we will address them is to bring them to light and do it in a way people can actually grasp and take action on. It is a great honor to be recognized with this Tribeca X award, alongside Rubrik and our production team,” said Perlroth.

“Our intent with To Catch a Thief was to take esoteric cyber and national security topics and make them accessible to us all. No one is better at doing this than Nicole,” said Julia Lee, Chief Strategy Officer, Rubrik. “This Tribeca X award validates that when you make cybersecurity understandable, you empower everyone to be part of the solution. We are immensely proud to partner on a project that helps drive public awareness for cyber resilience.”

On the other hand, Rubrik has continued expanding its cybersecurity storytelling initiatives with the launch of season two of the podcast. The company introduced “To Catch a Thief: North Koreans On Our Payroll” during Rubrik FORWARD in Las Vegas.

The second season investigates a hidden labor network that transfers hundreds of millions of dollars annually back to North Korea’s nuclear weapons program. The series provides an inside perspective through exclusive accounts and real-world investigations.

The latest season features interviews with a North Korean IT worker, conversations with defectors who escaped the country. Also investigations into citizens unknowingly operating “laptop farms” on behalf of North Korea.

Through “To Catch a Thief,” Rubrik continues to raise awareness about cybersecurity, cyber resilience, and emerging global security risks. The award-winning podcast demonstrates how accessible storytelling can help organizations and individuals better understand evolving cyber threats.
