Trellix Stops Enterprise Data Exposure in Sanctioned and Shadow AI

Data security

Trellix, a global leader in intelligence-led cyber resilience, announced enhanced data security capabilities and a strategic framework. The company designed these capabilities to help organizations adopt generative AI confidently while protecting sensitive data from exposure and loss. Trellix enables customers to control how data moves across sanctioned and shadow AI environments with improved visibility and governance.

“The rapid adoption of AI tools across the enterprise is creating new and often invisible data risks,” said Alex Au Yeung, Chief Product Officer, Trellix. “Trellix brings together policy, visibility, and enforcement in a unified framework to help customers control how data is used across both sanctioned and shadow AI.”

In 2025, 88% of companies used artificial intelligence in at least one business area, which is more than traditional means of protection. This led to an increase in the costs of data breaches of around $670,000 for each company on average. Moreover, artificial intelligence programs, although approved, create hazards when there are no specific rules for handling sensitive information.

Framework Strengthens Data Protection and Governance

“The regulatory landscape around data security continues to evolve, making compliance a moving target,” said Kristin Lowery, Field CISO, Optiv. “As organizations increasingly leverage AI in the workplace, having the right controls and visibility is essential to ensure compliant data-handling practices and prevent potential data leaks. This combination of associate training, data-handling processes, and controls is critical for responsibly integrating new AI tools.”

Trellix combines Data Loss Prevention, Data Encryption, and Database Security enhancements into a unified framework for secure AI workflows. The platform provides clearly defined usage guidelines, promotes good governance with training, and offers visibility into AI use in conjunction with sensitive data.

Trellix DLP with AI Data Risk Dashboard tracks sensitive data usage and provides visibility into sanctioned and unsanctioned use of AI. This Database Security with Analytics Hub ensures database security, detects any vulnerabilities, and helps teams to take action on vulnerable databases. Trellix Data Encryption limits access to sensitive data and blocks access to any AI applications for sensitive information. Professional Services from Trellix enables organizations to create programs to manage risks associated with using AI technology with sensitive data.
