LastPass announced a new Virtual Private Network offering to enhance consumer online privacy today. The secure access provider integrated this fast VPN connection directly into its new LastPass Plus plan. As such, users will be able to safeguard their passwords as well as browsing history using only one account. The bundle eliminates the need for users to juggle different accounts from various vendors.
Many internet users currently rely on separate third-party security software. Therefore, consumers frequently manage multiple logins, applications, and recurring fees to safeguard their personal data. The new LastPass platform solves these friction points by uniting core credential management and connection encryption.
“We live in an era where good security hygiene is critical, but staying protected shouldn’t come at the cost of convenience,” said Don MacLennan, Chief Product Officer at LastPass. “The most effective solutions are the ones that work seamlessly in the background without adding friction to everyday life. At LastPass, we continually look at how security is evolving and developing products that make it simple for users to better protect themselves against today’s threat landscape. The new LastPass VPN is the latest example of that commitment.”
The integrated service encrypts web traffic across home networks, public Wi-Fi hotspots, and travel connections. Furthermore, the underlying network infrastructure supports over 85 countries and 100 global virtual locations. Customers can connect up to 10 devices simultaneously without experiencing data bandwidth caps. Additionally, the network maintains a strict no-log policy for all active web traffic.
Strengthening Zero-Knowledge Architecture Across Multi-Platform Ecosystems
Crucially, the virtual private network operates independently from the main password vault. As a result, LastPass preserves its signature zero-knowledge security architecture for user credentials. The tool supports the enterprise mission to streamline secure access across every major operating system.
Currently, LastPass has launched the new software plan through an initial Windows Desktop release. Subsequently, the developer plans to expand support to iOS, Android, and macOS platforms. Ultimately, this expanded software suite helps consumers defend personal data without needing advanced technical expertise.
