Himax WiseEye Tech Brings Palm Vein Biometrics to WAFERLOCK L322 Smart Lock

WAFERLOCK

Himax Technologies, Inc. and WAFERLOCK Corporation jointly announced a major product integration today. Specifically, the partners integrated Himax’s WiseEye palm vein biometric authentication technology directly into the new WAFERLOCK L322 smart lock. Consequently, the commercial deployment brings contactless, high-security access control solutions to modern homes, residential communities, and commercial smart buildings.

The WAFERLOCK L322 smart lock combines palm vein recognition with traditional and modern credentials. For example, the device supports RFID cards, PIN codes, mechanical keys, and an optional mobile app. It also works well with EasyCard, iPASS, and MIFARE contactless cards for various residential settings.

All you have to do is hover your palm over the sensor for fast, touchless authentication. WAFERLOCK designed the unit for ultimate convenience when carrying heavy groceries, when hands are wet, or when helping children or elderly family members daily.

Palm vein technology doesn’t scan fingerprints like a conventional reader, but rather a unique vascular pattern underneath the skin. Thus, neither sweat, skin lesions nor changes in age interfere with authentication accuracy. Also, internal vein structures are very stable over time. Further, the palm vein patterns of identical twins are also different, significantly decreasing the likelihood of credential theft.

End Point AI Architecture & Global Hardware Impact

Under the hood, the WAFERLOCK L322 is powered by Himax’s leading-edge endpoint AI architecture. The system, in particular, combines an ultralow-power AI processor, a dedicated image sensor, and proprietary recognition algorithms, said the company.

The hardware captures the image, matches the features, and verifies this locally on the device so it does not require cloud connectivity. Thus, the local processing ensures user privacy with immediate responsiveness at low power consumption.

At the same time, WAFERLOCK continues to extend its international market presence in Europe, the US, and Japan. This historic partnership additionally emphasizes the strength of Taiwan’s smart lock hardware ecosystem.

“As smart homes, smart buildings, and digital access control continue to grow, we expect demand for palm vein biometric technology to increase as customers seek authentication solutions that combine contactless operation, high accuracy, spoof resistance, and strong privacy protection,” said Mark Chen, Vice President of Smart Sensing Business at Himax. “We will continue working closely with ecosystem partners to bring WiseEye’s ultralow power AI and palm vein biometric authentication technology to a broader range of smart locks, access control systems, and other intelligent edge devices.”

In summary, WAFERLOCK and Himax deliver a compelling combination of endpoint AI processing and premium hardware manufacturing. Thus, both organizations continue advancing next-generation access control standards for global consumers.
