North Carolina cybersecurity efforts are advancing through a major statewide initiative as the North Carolina Department of Information Technology (NCDIT) selects Tanium to strengthen cyber protection through the SecureNC program. Tanium, a leader in Autonomous IT, will serve as the state’s whole-of-state cybersecurity partner.
The partnership will provide unified cybersecurity capabilities across North Carolina counties, cities, universities, and critical service organizations. Furthermore, the initiative will help establish a stronger foundation for statewide cyber protection by improving endpoint visibility, security control, and response capabilities.
North Carolina will introduce the SecureNC program through a phased implementation strategy. Initially, the rollout will focus on counties, cities, and higher education institutions. As a result, organizations across the state will gain access to modern cybersecurity solutions designed to address increasing cyber threats.
The demand for advanced cybersecurity solutions continues to grow as threat actors use more sophisticated techniques. Therefore, North Carolina is focusing on improving vulnerability management, threat detection, and incident response capabilities. Through Tanium’s unified platform, the state aims to strengthen cyber resilience and reduce security risks before incidents occur.
“North Carolina is a high-target state with major research institutions, military bases, busy ports, and one of the largest financial footprints outside New York. Threat actors see us as a place where they can cause real disruption, so it’s critical that government and the private sector work collaboratively,” said Bernice Russell-Bond, state chief information security officer at NCDIT. “Tanium gives us real-time visibility into vulnerabilities across our agencies and, through SecureNC, will extend that same capability to our counties and cities. This unified approach helps us strengthen cyber resilience and reduce the risk of incidents before they happen.”
Tanium Delivers Unified Endpoint Security Across Public Sector Organizations
Tanium’s cybersecurity platform combines endpoint management, exposure management, and security operations into one integrated solution. Additionally, the platform enables real-time endpoint intelligence, automated investigations, and faster security responses across thousands of devices. Through this partnership, North Carolina can improve endpoint security across diverse environments. Moreover, the SecureNC program will help ensure essential services remain operational during cybersecurity challenges. These services include emergency response systems and educational institutions.
The initiative will also support both rural and urban communities by delivering consistent cybersecurity protections. Consequently, smaller jurisdictions with limited resources can access advanced security capabilities supported by statewide coordination. Tanium’s technology will help North Carolina create a comprehensive view of vulnerabilities and cyber risks. Furthermore, security teams can use real-time data to improve decision-making and strengthen incident response processes.
The unified cybersecurity platform will also reduce complexity by limiting dependence on multiple disconnected security tools. Therefore, organizations can improve operational efficiency while managing cybersecurity costs more effectively.
“A modern cyber strategy depends on structured and incentivized public-private collaboration. North Carolina’s SecureNC program aligns counties, cities, and educational institutions on Tanium’s unified platform so every jurisdiction operates from a single source of truth,” said Jennifer Axt, senior vice president, North America Government at Tanium. “With autonomous capabilities and real-time endpoint intelligence, the state can improve decision-making, strengthen incident response, and make critical operations unstoppable for every community. We’re proud to partner with North Carolina on SecureNC and support the protection of the communities and critical infrastructure they rely on every day.”
The announcement follows Tanium’s participation at the North Carolina AI and Cybersecurity Symposium in Raleigh. During the event, the Tanium team discussed the importance of the SecureNC program and shared approaches for autonomous endpoint management, real-time risk visibility, and automated remediation.
These cybersecurity automation strategies help public sector organizations identify threats quickly and improve operational resilience. In addition, the collaboration highlights North Carolina’s continued commitment to strengthening government cybersecurity through advanced technology.
Through SecureNC, North Carolina is building a statewide cybersecurity framework powered by automation, endpoint intelligence, and unified security operations. The program will help protect critical infrastructure, improve cyber resilience, and enhance security readiness across communities throughout the state.
