SonicWall has appointed industry veteran Michael Crean as general manager of its newly formed Managed Security Services Division, marking a key step in the company’s shift toward becoming a full-service cybersecurity partner for MSPs and MSSPs.

Crean, who joined SonicWall in 2023 following its acquisition of Solutions Granted, the MSSP he founded in 2001, will spearhead the development and scaling of co-managed and fully managed security offerings. His focus will be on enabling partners to deliver layered, real-time protection for their customers.

SonicWall president and CEO Bob VanKirk stressed that businesses can no longer depend on disconnected security tools. Instead, they need trusted partners delivering 24/7 protection through expert-led managed services. “Having a Security Operations Center is no longer optional — it’s essential,” VanKirk said, adding that Crean’s leadership will be pivotal in empowering partners to deliver scalable security-as-a-service.

At the core of the new division is SonicSentry, a managed services suite offering MDR, CDR, and NDR, backed by SonicWall’s global SOC infrastructure. The portfolio also includes MXDR for vendor-agnostic detection and response across endpoints, networks, identity systems, and cloud platforms. These services eliminate the need for partners to build their own SOC while offering coverage for tools like SentinelOne, Fortinet, and Windows Defender.

Additionally, the Managed Protection Security Suite (MPSS) delivers continuous firewall management with updates, monitoring, and co-branded reporting — supported by SonicWall’s $200,000 cyber warranty for each managed device.

Commenting on his new role, Crean said SonicWall is redefining its future: “This is the new SonicWall: responsive, partner-led, and focused on helping MSPs succeed. Managed security services aren’t just an add-on — they’re central to every solution we deliver.”
